We made our home on the small Puget Sound island of Vashon in Washington State. This beautiful, quirky rural place has much to offer and many cool things to explore. Here is a list of favorite places and adventures if you are planning a visit!
Point Robinson Lighthouse & park – perfect for beach walks and photo ops with Mt. Rainer
Biking – the island is very bike friendly, but be aware that there is a long hill to tackle right off the ferry
Palouse Winery – wine tasting on Saturday and Sunday, great people too! ($10pp)
Seattle Distillery – good homemade booze the old fashioned way
Farmer’s Market – Every Saturday March-Nov, 10:00-2:00 featuring local produce and artisan goods
Maury Island Marine Park – 300 acres of restored and protected land. great trails and views!
Public beaches – great low tide adventures
Strawberry Festival – the island heritage street fair festival in July
Santa Parade and tree lighting – first Saturday evening in December
Christmas tree cutting
Westside Hwy scenic drive
Snapdragon – vegetarian food and great bakery, fun family friendly atmosphere (try the cake)
The Hardware Store – great old historic building, diverse and reliable menu, reservations are recommended
Vashon Island Baking Co – we find this place to be a bit too pricy for our taste, but it is always packed and popular
May Kitchen – who knew that TOP rated, authentic Thai food was on Vashon? it is. go.
Red Bicycle – decent burgers and sushi
Saucy Sisters pizza – 90 second (!) wood fired pizza, not amazing but it is fast
Farm stands – these are everywhere! Just look for the roadside sandwich board signs
Ober Park – a great kids playground park on the edge of town, right next to the public library
Wingehaven Park – beautiful waterfront park on the N. end. View of Mt. Rainer on a clear day, but can be a steep and muddy walk in
